Carla Jones, Chief Executive Officer
Carla joined Allergy UK in May 2015 with ten years senior executive experience leading complex services in the third and public sectors and an earlier academic career lecturing on topics associated with early years development, the psycho-social aspects of health and evaluation of the impact of the government’s Sure Start initiatives.
Carla is leading the strategic growth of Allergy UK in line with our mission to raise the profile of allergy at all levels so that everyone affected by allergy will receive the best possible care and support. She represents the charity at influential organisations working in the field of allergy across the UK and Europe, including the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI), the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) and the European Federation of Allergy and Airways Association (EFA) where she is a board member. Carla is also Co-Chair of the National Allergy Strategy Group (NASG).
Simone Miles, Operations Director
Simone is Operations Director with 13 years of senior executive experience working in the third sector, which includes health, education and youth. Responsible for strategic and operational aspects of the charity. Overseeing all departments to ensure the successful execution of business functions and services for the allergic community and to provide a well-coordinated and productive happy team.
Chris Sowerby, Management Accountant
Chris joined Allergy UK in January 2020 and brings over 30 years of financial knowledge and experience to the Charity. Chris has worked in a broad range of industries and also spent a period in practice. As well as ensuring the Charity continues to maintain its financial reporting and controls in line with legislation and best practice, he is also developing the use of technological integration with other areas of the Charity to improve efficiency.
Amena Warner, Head of Clinical Services
Amena was a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Immunology and Allergy at an NHS Hospital Trust before joining Allergy UK. She trained at University College Hospital, followed by paediatric training at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. She also holds a Public Health and Specialist Practice in School Nursing qualification. Visiting schools and carrying out health assessments made Amena very aware of the rising incidence of allergy in the UK and this was instrumental in developing her interest in the field.
Amena is a member of the College of Nursing Immunology & Allergy Nurses group and is the first nurse to sit on the British Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI) council where she started the National Nurses in Allergy Group.
Maggie Young, Comms and Public Affairs Manager
Maggie joined Allergy UK in 2016 with a wide range of experience in the development and management of integrated communications campaigns for organisations in the health education and charity sectors. Her current role as Public Affairs Manager is focused on the issues and health policies that impact on those living with allergic disease. Maggie provides a major supportive role for the CEO and wider team on many of the engagement projects in which Allergy UK is involved with government agencies, other stakeholders and corporate partners.
Leigh George, Head of Endorsements
Leigh has worked at Allergy UK for over 12 years and manages the product endorsement programme for the charity across a number of product sectors, with a global reach.
She also manages the Allergy Aware Scheme, the AAS is a recognition for businesses, which have gone that extra step ‘above and beyond’ the basic requirements of the law. They take food allergy seriously and can cater for people affected by food allergy competently, having been independently audited, with staff undergoing robust training for allergen management and serving customers with food allergies. Leigh also works with Local Authorities to provide Allergen Awareness Training for all types of catering business.
Rebecca McGrath, Helpline Manager
Rebecca joined Allergy UK in 2019 as Helpline Manager. She has enjoyed a career in the voluntary sector at Rape Crisis, The MS Society, Respect and The Helplines Partnership as a Trainer and Assessor. Rebecca will work with the team to support anyone contacting the Helpline and to grow the service.
