The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee incorporated in August 2002 having been first registered as an unincorporated charity in 1991.
The company was established under a Memorandum of Association which states the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association. In addition to the Memorandum and Articles of Association the charity also operates under the Code of Good Governance approved by the National Council of Voluntary Organisations and the Charity Commission.
