Tommy Sheppard MP

Our Champions

Allergic conditions are common in Scotland, affecting about one in three of the population at some time in their lives. Despite this, allergy service provision varies greatly across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Allergy UK has been an effective advocate for those suffering from allergic conditions. As an Allergy UK champion, I am pleased to help them raise awareness and concerns within the UK Parliament.

Tommy Sheppard is the Scottish National Party (SNP) Member of Parliament for Edinburgh East where he was elected in May 2015. He currently undertakes the role of Shadow SNP Spokesperson for Constitutional Affairs.

Tommy was born in Coleraine, County Londonderry in 1959. He attended Coleraine Academical Institution before studying at the University of Aberdeen, graduating with a degree in Politics and Sociology.

When living in London, Tommy served as a councillor on Hackney London Borough Council and became Deputy Leader of the Council. He moved back to Scotland in 1993. In 1995, Tommy opened the Stand Comedy Club and turned this into a successful business.

In September 2014, after spending two years campaigning for a Yes vote on Scottish independence, he joined the SNP and was elected as the MP for Edinburgh East in 2015.

In Parliament, Tommy has held several roles for the SNP including SNP Spokesperson on the House of Lords, Cabinet and Scotland Offices and in 2020 was appointed as SNP Shadow Leader of the House.
