Stephen Benn, Viscount Stansgate

Our Champions

Stephen Benn, Viscount Stansgate, is a Labour member of the House of Lords.

Stephen is the son of the former Labour MP Tony Benn. He is a graduate of Keele University and was previously elected as a Member of the Inner London Education Authority from 1986 to 1990.

In 2011, Stephen was appointed as Director of Parliamentary Affairs for the Royal Society of Biology, after working for two decades in a similar capacity with the Royal Society of Chemistry. Stephen succeeded to the title of Viscount Stansgate in 2014 and as a Hereditary Peer was elected, unopposed, to the House of Lords on 15 July 2021.

He was elected President of the Parliamentary & Scientific Committee in March 2022.
