Celebrating 35 Years of Allergy UK
Over the past 35 years, Allergy UK has helped transform the conversation around allergy. From pioneering training programmes for healthcare professionals and schools, to launching its internationally recognised Seal of Approval and expanding digital resources and awareness campaigns, the charity has remained committed to improving understanding and standards of allergy care nationwide. At the heart of that work has always been the people Allergy UK serves, and its dedicated Helpline, which continues to provide vital reassurance, guidance and expert support to thousands of people every year.
For 35 years, Allergy UK has been a constant source of support for people navigating the challenges of allergic disease. While awareness of allergy has increased significantly since the charity’s founding in 1991, many families and individuals still face uncertainty, delayed diagnosis and limited access to specialist care. Allergy UK’s work has therefore always extended far beyond awareness campaigns alone. The charity has become a trusted everyday resource for people seeking practical advice, emotional reassurance and evidence-based information they can rely on.
One of the most important ways Allergy UK delivers this support is through its Helpline service. Staffed by trained advisors and supported by in-house clinical experts, team responds to thousands of enquiries each year, helping people understand symptoms, manage conditions and access appropriate NHS allergy services. For many callers, the Helpline offers something equally valuable alongside information: reassurance. Our advisors guide people towards allergy clinics and consultants, provide support around food allergy, eczema, asthma and anaphylaxis concerns, and refer more complex cases to members of Allergy UK’s Health Advisory Board.
Alongside the Helpline, Allergy UK has continued to expand its reach through factsheets, webinars, school programmes, campaigns and online resources that now support hundreds of thousands of people every year. Its mission, for everyone in the UK to take allergy seriously, remains as urgent today as it was 35 years ago, with an estimated 21 million people in the UK living with allergic disease.

Allergy UK, A Timeline
As the charity celebrates this landmark anniversary, it is also an opportunity to reflect on how far allergy care and awareness have come. From its beginnings as the British Allergy Foundation to becoming today’s leading national allergy charity, Allergy UK’s story is one of innovation, persistence and compassion.
