Arlo's Story

Allergy UK's very own hero

Arlo has been a friend and avid supporter of Allergy UK ever since he was nominated for and went on to win Allergy UK’s 2018 Child Hero award. Since then, he has taken on the walk of his life, challenging himself to complete a marathon by foot, in order to raise vital funds to help people living with allergy in the UK.

At the same time, Arlo chose to honour Dr. William Frankland, a legendary figure in the world of allergy, who sadly died in April 2020. Dr. Frankland presented Arlo’s award at the 2018 Allergy Heroes event.  At the time there was a 100 years age difference between the two of them.

“Coronavirus means that charities like Allergy UK will be very short of money to help people in need. I want to do what I can to help them like they’ve helped me. I am walking a marathon in 12 days to honour Dr Frankland who is a hero of mine, and I’ve chosen to wear fancy dress to jazz it up! I feel proud telling people that I am walking a marathon for Allergy UK.”

Arlo, who has multiple food allergies, was nominated for Allergy UK’s Child Hero award for his positive attitude and determination despite his many hospital appointments and admissions, and hopes to inspire others to feel the same. He is also keen to educate other people about allergies and he advocates for other children with food allergies who may be shy about expressing their needs.
