BSACI Guideline for the diagnosis and management of peanut and tree nut allergy
Allergy UK welcomes the new BSACI Guideline for the diagnosis and management of peanut and tree nut allergy. Nut allergy is the most common cause of severe and fatal allergic reactions in the UK. It can cause immense distress and heartbreak for patients and their families and, because the majority do not outgrow this allergy, the number of affected adults is increasing every year.
For the first time this new Guideline, which Allergy UK reviewed, brings together the latest thinking on all the key aspects of peanut and tree allergy that Healthcare Professionals are faced with in their management of patients. It also discusses some cutting edge innovations, including early life prevention, testing of siblings and immunotherapy – all areas that expand the understanding of this increasingly common allergy. It will be a valuable resource in providing the best possible care for both adults and children with nut allergy.
Says Carla Jones, CEO of Allergy UK: “This Guideline represents a significant step forward in the understanding and management of peanut and tree nut allergy. People who live with this allergy, and their families, live in fear, every single day, of a fatal reaction and this fear impacts on every aspect of their lives. We hope that this new Guideline will benefit patients through receiving the latest evidence based advice to help them live a safer and more confident life.”
