Allergy UK to attend Ice Cream & Artisan Food Show

Issue Date: 6th February 2020

Allergy UK, the leading UK charity providing support for those living with all types of allergies, is proud to be sponsoring the brand new ‘Alternative Class’ category of this year’s National Ice Cream Awards at The Ice Cream and Artisan Food Show 2020 in Harrogate, 11th – 13th February.

Representatives from the charity will be attending the show on 12th February with a stand providing information on food allergies. Allergy UK’s Head of Endorsements, Leigh George will also be giving a seminar to introduce the charity’s Allergy Aware Scheme. The Scheme is a training programme for catering outlets to demonstrate to customers that they have a high standard of allergen knowledge and can provide excellent customer service for food allergic customers.

Allergy UK is pleased to see the introduction of the new ‘Alternative Class’ category into the Ice Cream Awards programme.  The new category includes products suitable for people living with food allergies. Yorica, an ice cream company which produces a range of ice cream which is free from the top 14 allergens and which is recognised by the Allergy Aware Scheme has been nominated for this award. With food allergy affecting up to 8% of children and 2% of adults(1), it is good to see manufacturers which are demonstrating their willingness to cater for food allergic customers being recognised in awards programmes like this.
