Nickel Allergy
Nickel is found in most metal and metal plated objects such as kitchen utensils, scissors, costume jewellery, watches, spectacle frames, buckles, zippers, fasteners, coins, white gold and some industrial cutting fluids.
Avoidance: Aluminium, stainless steel and yellow gold are usually safe alternative metals. Look for non-metallic zippers and fasteners etc.
Use scissors, kitchen utensils, combs or other metal items with plastic or wooden handles. Never wear earrings that are not guaranteed free from nickel.
Metallic items that are difficult to avoid contact with such as watches, door keys etc. could be coated with several layers of clear nail polish or lacquer or a plastic coating to cover the metal.
If you are severely allergic use non-nickel kitchen utensils, and avoid foods that are rich in Nickel.
Foods high in Nickel
For a Nickel free diet one needs to avoid these items. However, if no improvement occurs in your condition, return to a normal food diet. Most people will not be affected by such foods.

- Corn
- Cocoa
- Herrings
- Mushrooms
- Oysters
- Peanuts
- Pears
- Peas
- Raisins
- Rhubarb
- Spinach
- Sprouts
- Tea
- Tomatoes
- Wholemeal Flour
- All Canned Foods
All foods cooked in Nickel-free utensils.
