Fundraising Update

There has been a number of fantastic fundraising events organised by our supporters. Below are details of those over the last few months:

Susan and Colin Run Loch Ness Marathon

Image of ColinSusan and Colin McRitchie whose eldest daughter, Eilidh, has a peanut allergy, completed the Baxters Lochness 10K Marathon raising money for Allergy UK in the process.

Susan says: "As you are aware our family is affected by Allergies.  My daughter has a peanut and nut allergy and also suffers from asthma and eczema and our nephew has a seafood allergy.  We found out our eldest daughter, Eilidh, had a peanut allergy July 2005. when she was 3 and a half years of age.  Much of what we know about Eilidh's Allergy we have learned from reading sites available on the Internet - including your own. Our own GP was not very helpful and initially it took us a long time to get an accurate diagnosis.

Eilidh sees an Asthma nurse based at Dr Gray's hospital, Elgin, who has also been very helpful.  She informed us about the Community health team who drew up a protocol for Eilidh when attending nursery and now primary school.  She also arranged that Eilidh be tested for other potential food allergies.  This test came back showing Eilidh was also allergic to Hazelnuts, Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Coconut.  We took that to mean all tree nuts to be on the safe side.

Image of SusanThe food shopping and cooking in our house has been affected by Eilidh's allergy as now we have to be so aware of all the risks and potential risks from a peanut and nut allergy.  Fortunately, Eilidh is a very fussy eater so this makes keeping an eye on what she is eating a little easier.  Also, eating out is affected, but we just make her up a "packed lunch"  if we have any concerns about where we are going.  She has to carry her epi-pens when in the school playground and this does not seem to cause any stress to her. Eilidh is very good about her diagnosis and she seems quite proud of the fact that she has allergies.  We think, that she thinks, that she is 'special' because of this.  We would have to agree with her on that one - we are both very proud parents when we see how she deals with the problems that a peanut and nut allergy create."

Thanks go to Colin and Susan for their tremendous efforts in supporting us.

World Cup Charity Fund Raising Event

Thank you to Sharon Haynes at The Royal Sun Alliance and to The Profin RSA team at St Marks Court for their very kind donation.

The Profin RSA team based in St Marks Court in Horsham recently held various fundraising events throughout the world cup event. During the competition each team hosted events ranging from a Spanish tapas with an unusual flamenco dancer, a French quiz, the Italian grand prix on a scalextric, throwing fruit in Carmen Miranda's hat, table soccer, the Berlin wall, a Mexican quiz and a Dutch coffee house.

It sounds like you all had a fantastic time and had lots of fun along the way. Allergy UK was one of their three chosen charities. Thanks again guys and well done for all of your hard work.

Rachel and friends held an 80's party to raise funds for Allergy UK.  Rachel's friend Ruwanthi, who jointly helped to organise and host the party, works for Gap and they very kindly offered to match whatever was raised from the event meaning Rachel ended up raising a fantastic amount of money for Allergy UK

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the party a success.

Alexander's 7th Birthday Party

Alexander Esau recently had his 7th Birthday.  Alexander has a lot of allergies including egg, fish, milk & dairy, nuts, moulds, sesame, and wheat.  He also has eczema.  At his party he asked parents to donate to Allergy UK rather than giving presents which we think was lovely act which we are very grateful for.

Happy Birthday Alexander, well done and many thanks to you your friends and family for your support.

Michael Gash - Maplethorpe Marathon

On the 10th September 2006 Michael completed the Maplethorpe Marathon which was a great achievement and raised money for Allergy UK in the process.

Both Michael and his daughter suffer from allergies and he felt that he wanted to generate awareness for Allergy UK and to raise funds us.

Many thanks Michael and to everyone who helped to support him along the way.

I am delighted that so many of you have very kindly offered to support us. Thank you to everyone who has given donations and to those of you who gave up your time to hold events and raise funds for us.  Your help and support is very much appreciated.
