Pharmacy Allergy Screening Service

Ask Your Pharmacist

Allergy UK, in conjunction with Ask Your Pharmacist, have introduced this service in response to public demand for credible and affordable allergy diagnosis.  The accredited pharmacists have gone through extensive training in order to deliver this service. We are training pharmacists on an on-going basis and are gradually rolling out the programme.

What does the screening cover?

A full clinical history will be taken which includes the pharmacist discussing various aspects of your lifestyle.  The pharmacist may recommend that you also have a test or, if you would like a test, you can request one. Imutest is the test of choice for the pharmacy screening service. Please note, the tests available in pharmacy cover the most common allergens only.

What is the cost?

Consultation                         £35
Test (if required/requested)     £25
A maximum of                      £60

Can I have a test without the consultation?

Without knowing the clinical history, the test results are impossible to interpret.  If you would like a test you will need to have the consultation too and pay the maximum fee of £60.

After taking the history and (if needed) a test, the pharmacist will be able to make a diagnosis of which allergens are likely to be triggering your reaction. You will be given advice on how to better manage your condition, including advice on over the counter medication, allergen avoidance or, in more complex cases, a referral to your GP.  As it is unclear before the consultation is undertaken whether a test is required, the fee will be payable once the screening is complete.

What happens after the Allergy Screening with the pharmacist?

Allergy UK will follow up your allergy screening by providing you with a tailored information pack and will contact you shortly afterwards to see how you are getting on following the advice.

How will I know that the Pharmacist is accredited by Allergy UK?

All pharmacists accredited by Allergy UK will have been through an intensive training programme and will have two valid certificates on display in their pharmacy to prove that they have completed the accreditation process.  There will be one certificate for the pharmacist and one for the pharmacy.
